The Fund-a-Need portion of the evening raised $192,000 which was then matched by one of our loyal donors for $192,000 for a total of $384,000! We had (39) $1,000 donors that evening, which was a record for the event. We also had 141 donors during the Fund-a-Need portion of the auction, which was also a Main Event record. GREAT NEWS! MOELLER RECOGNIZES TOP 10 GRADUATING SENIORS IN INAUGURAL CEREMONY:
GREAT NEWS! GREG LIND ’13 EARNS EAGLE SCOUT AWARD: Senior Greg Lind has earned his Eagle Scout Award. Greg’s passion is soccer so he wanted to contribute to the less fortunate children in the Cincinnati area who want to play soccer but might not have the means to do so. He did major collections, got donations of new and used equipment and donated it to SAY Soccer. He had over 200 balls, close to 100 cleats and turf shoes, uniforms, shorts, water bottles, shin guards, socks, small practice goals, and misc. soccer equipment. Greg is part of Troop 24, St. James White Oak.
GREAT NEWS! EDDY PAPPALARDO ’15 EARNS EAGLE SCOUT AWARD: Sophomore Eddy Pappalardo recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor in the Boy Scouts of America Program. One of the requirements for the Eagle rank is to complete a service project, which includes a written proposal, fundraising, and recruiting volunteers to execute the plan. For his project, Eddy built foot bridges and a walking path at the Ohio Valley Voices, a school for very young deaf children.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
SUMMER READING - A LONG WAY GONE: MEMOIRS OF A BOY SOLDIER: From the Academic Dean, Chirs Wilke: Our interdisciplinary study for next year will focus on how the Men, and Women, of the Moeller community can be “Crusaders for Peace” in our world.
For those who know their history, the word “crusader” does have specific military significance. We respect and honor the military for its bravery and selfless acts they do on a daily basis. But at the same time, our Marianist character, our Catholic school heritage, and our individual faith journeys, call us to seek peace before resorting to defense or violence. This is what compels us to study how to be creators of peace in the midst of a violent world.
As part of next year’s interdisciplinary study, members of the Moeller community will be part of a collective project to read a book this summer, just as we have done the past 2 summers. The name of the book is A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. Please acquire A Long Way Gone from a local bookstore or library, and read the book in preparation for next year’s interdisciplinary study.
