Dear Parents,
Fourth quarter is here, and exams will be upon us before we know it. With Spring Break quickly approaching, the end of the year will be a myriad of activity. Please check the Moeller calendar online to keep up with all the events and happenings. Between Prom, the Environmental Symposium, Spring Break, games, concerts, choral performances, plays, and many other events and activities, it is imperative that the Men of Moeller stay on top of their grades in light of our busy schedule.
Advanced Placement testing will be during the weeks of May 6-10 and May 13-16. This schedule is set by the College Board and is not flexible in any way. A more specific schedule of tests will be coming out in the next few weeks. In the meantime, if you need to know the testing schedule, consult either the AP Bulletin that was passed out to all the AP classes during the past two weeks or go online to the College Board website to see the day that your son’s test(s) will be administered.
Any missed exams cannot be made up during these two weeks. Any student who misses a test will have to make it up during the scheduled make-up week set by the College Board. For parents of juniors and seniors, since there are also final exams going on these two weeks of AP testing, please do everything you can to clear these days on your calendars to avoid any unnecessary absences. We will be accepting any last-minute AP orders on Monday, March 25. After that date, we will be placing our order for AP tests. If there are any orders submitted after Monday, there will be an additional $13 fee assessed by the College Board.
The Environmental Symposium is right around the corner on April 15. Our symposium will be begin at approximately 12:45 PM and continue until the end of the school day. Please feel free to come and see our students, teachers, and outside speakers present this day on a variety of environmental topics.
We also have an exciting opportunity coming up at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year. We are looking for 2-3 families who would be willing to open their homes to students from our partner school in Zaragoza, Spain. We have had an exchange with them for the past nine years, but this year, we are in need of some additional families who would be willing to take in a Spanish student who will be attending school at Moeller for five weeks from early September until early October. This is an exciting opportunity for your son to improve his Spanish proficiency, as well as show the hospitable character that makes Moeller the wonderful community that it is. I realize that many families would like their sons to participate on our Spanish exchange, but can’t due to costs. This is a great way to have the exchange experience without the having to worry about the cost of airfare and travel. Please contact Chris Wilke, Britt Raymond, or Alberto Delgado if you are interested in helping out with this wonderful exchange experience.
As always, thank you for all that you do for the Moeller community!

Pictured Left: Moeller's new SMART Team members (Students Modeling a Research Topic) are collaborating to design and construct a physical model of a protein (prolactin).
Afterward, working with Moeller Science Teacher Dan Shannon and University of Cincinnati Professor Karen Gregerson (College of Pharmacy), they will design a poster and develop a 10-minute oral presentation that tells the "story" of the model of prolactin and explains its link to breast cancer. Their presentation will be evaluated, and, if selected, the Moeller SMART Team will travel to Boston this spring to present their work at the 2013 Annual American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB). Moeller's SMART Team is the only one in Ohio.
