Laptop Program

The Laptop Program began in 1995, when the administration provided the entire faculty with laptop computers and extensive training in computer technology and software. That same year the school invested in a full-time technology coordinator, ensuring that the staff and network would receive ongoing support. Three years later Moeller piloted the student laptop program by choosing 25 students and a core group of faculty. In 1999, the entire freshman class received laptop computers, and each successive year the incoming freshmen have used laptops as one of their primary educational tools. With on-going technology training for students and faculty, the laptop has become an important tool for the learning process at Moeller. Along with research, the laptop is used for numerous tasks including communication, digital texts, and specialized software applications. In 2002, educational technology leader IBM selected Moeller as a model program in technology education. Since that time, numerous educational leaders and groups around the country have visited Moeller to learn how the school successfully integrates computer laptops throughout the curriculum. In 2006 the Technology Program merged with the Chaminade Library to enhance and streamline the resources, training and support for students and faculty.

Laptop Program - Phase II

2005-2006 was the beginning for Phase II of the laptop program.  There are many new components that were incorporated into the program enhancing the classroom use of student laptops. The laptop program provides an integral facet of the overall educational experience for students. The program is unique among secondary schools and one in which we take great pride. Your input and support will impact the success of Phase II and the use of student laptops in the curriculum. The technology department has been coordinating the implementation of Phase II. Please feel free to ask for help or information from any member of the department.

The following is an outline of the six major components of the Phase II Laptop Program for 2005-2006:
  1. FORMATION OF A FACULTY  TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE

  2. FORMATION OF A STUDENT TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE

  3. TEACHER SUPPORT CLASSES WITH CEU CREDIT

  4. EXPANSION OF THE HELP CENTER AND TECH SUPPORT

  5. REVISION OF THE INFORMATION SYSTEMS CLASS

  6. INTRODUCTION OF NEW SOFTWARE FOR CLASSROOM USE GIVING THE TEACHER MORE CONTROL OVER STUDENT ACCESS
