M.A.C.H. 1 / R.I.S.E.

MACH 1 began almost ten years ago when a few students and faculty members began working with an organization in Over the Rhine called Over the Rhine Community Housing. Students that volunteered with this group formed the core of students that began the Moeller Advocates for Community Housing. The main goal of this group was to help rehab buildings in OTR to provide affordable housing options for low or no income families. Just last year the name of the group changed to the Moeller Advocates for a Common Hope. This name change signifies the shift in focus of the group. Besides working with Over the Rhine Community Housing and the Community Land Cooperative to provide affordable housing options for the poor, the students who participate in MACH 1 now have the opportunity to work at the Drop Inn Center, the Joseph House, Choices Cafe Resume Program, and many others. MACH 1 is one of the largest continuing service programs in the city. Almost every Saturday morning during the school year twenty to forty students work from 8:00 AM until noon all over the Over the Rhine neighborhood and other parts of downtown. All students are encouraged to participate.
This year, M.A.C.H. 1 will be incorporated into a larger, city-wide organization called R.I.S.E. R.I.S.E. will incorporated students from Moeller, Mount Notre Dame, St. Ursula, and other schools and organizations to help with projects aimed to alleviate and eliminate the causes of poverty in the Over the Rhine area. The sign up book for M.A.C.H. 1 / R.I.S.E. is located in the Deans Den at Mr. Shaffers desk.
