Special Education Services

Special Education Services are provided to students with a documented disability that require the services of a qualified special education service provider. An Evaluation Team Report (ETR) documenting eligibility for SLD (Specific Learning Disability), OHI (Other Health Impaired – ADHD, etc.), or Speech Language and an IEP (Individualized Education Program), or SP ( Services Plan) should already be in place. Students will receive the accommodations and/or services specified in their IEP/SP:

  • Study Skills Class – academic support class every other day for 90 minutes
  • Speech Language Services – service designed to help meet the needs of students with diagnosed language, articulation, voice, and/or fluency disorders who need direct, indirect, or consultative speech/language services
  • Testing Accommodations – as noted in the student’s Moeller Assistance (MAP)
  • Collaborative intervention services with students, teachers, counselors, and parents regarding effective instructional/learning strategies for students with learning differences
  • Re-evaluations for current students who have already receive services or initial evaluations for students who are suspected of having a disability based upon student’s lack of response to intervention

Application Process

  • Attend Moeller’s Open House in the fall.

  • Take the Moeller Placement Test in the fall.

  • Follow the registration process used by all students seeking admission.

  • Submit the following items to Coordinator Karen Matuszek, Special Education Services:

      • A copy of a Evaluation Team Report (ETR) completed within the past three years

      • A copy of the student’s current IEP, SP, or current accommodation/intervention plan with area of disability documented

      • Grade school reports: Report cards from 6th, 7th, and first quarter 8th grade and standardized group achievement tests

      • Letters from eighth grade teachers or principal, tutor(s), speech-language pathologist, or educational specialist (if applicable) addressing the student’s day-to-day skills, work habits, and motivation, as well as his potential to meet the college preparatory curriculum options at Moeller High School

      • Attend the Moeller PREP in June.

      • Attend an orientation meeting with parents prior to the start of school.

Moeller Assistance Plan (MAP)

This service is designed to help meet the needs of students with diagnosed disabilities in the regular classroom.

Specific accommodations are noted/implemented in the classroom to facilitate the student’s school success (i.e. copies of teacher notes).  

Math Intervention
Kristen Nay

This service is designed to help meet the needs of math students who may benefit from small-group or one-on-one instruction. The students may also receive additional math strategies and/or intervention related to their math course of study. Students, parents, counselors, or teachers may request this math support. 

Peer Tutoring
Bro. Bob Flaherty, S.M.

This service is designed to help meet the occasional academic needs of a student in a particular course. Students may request the services of a peer tutor by contacting the Guidance Office.

Parent Support Group

Parent Contact: Looking for a new parent contact

This service is designed as a forum for Moeller parents of students with diagnosed disabilities, ADD/ADHD, or other learning needs. The purpose of the group is to share effective parenting strategies, tips, and methodologies through resource sharing, speaker presentations, and discussion groups. The group meets the first Wednesday each month.
